Happy Valentines Day! I hope you are all treated to lots of love today. Not just from spouses and significant others, but that you are reminded by your friends, family, and others around you how special you are and how much you are loved.
I am such a cheesy person when it comes to things like Valentines Day. I love romantic comedies, flowers, dates with my husband, and the dorky sayings on conversation hearts. These cookies are so perfect because I get to write my own cheesy sayings. I even wrote “Let’s make out!” on one. My cookies – my sayings 😉
Conversation Heart Cookies
- 3 cups flour
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 stick butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2/3 cup fat free milk
- food coloring
Cream the butter and sugar together. Mix in the egg. In another bowl, combine the dry ingredients: flour, cornstarch, salt, baking powder, and baking soda. Pour dry mix into wet mixture and combine. Mix in the milk.
Divide the dough into five equal pieces. Take one piece of dough, add drops of food coloring, and knead the dye into the dough. Repeat with the other dough pieces with different food colorings. Wrap each piece of dough in plastic wrap and chill them for 1 hour.
Preheat the oven to 325ºF. Take the dough out of the fridge. Roll the dough out into thick pieces and cut with a cookie cutter. Place cut-outs on parchment or silpat lined cookie sheets. Bake for 15 minutes. 10 minutes for softer less crispy cookies. Let cool and decorate with conversation heart sayings.
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
Combine lemon juice and powdered sugar, pour into a cake decorating bag with #5 tip or ziplock with a very small snip. Be as creative as you want with these! You can even put some of the scraps of dough together and make something fun –
